ASAGAYA

The suburb of Asagaya is a 12 minute ride west of Shinjuku on the Chuo-Sobu Line. This residential area offers a little more of a ‘local’ experience for visitors to Tokyo. Aside from the various shopping arcades and restaurants, Asagaya also boats an annual Jazz festival called Jazz Streets. If this weren’t enough, it also plays host to an annual Tanabata Festival, one of Japan’s biggest summer festivals. During Tanabata, locals decorate the shopping arcades around the station with paper mache figures dedicated to the pair. With so much to see and do, you can start by checking out our articles covering our favourite things to do in Asagaya.
