Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto is a castle city surrounded by mountains in Nagano Prefecture. With one of Japan’s 5 most precious castles, a charming traditional aesthetic and an abundance of fresh flowing natural spring water from the Japanese Alps, it makes for a great short trip from the major cities. At just 2.5 hours from Tokyo and 3 from Osaka, it’s easily accessible and definitely worth a look. Matsumoto is a great base for exploring areas such as Azumino, Kamikochi and Norikura. With so much to see and do in the area, where do you begin? You can start by checking out the helpful articles below.
