Okinawa is the beachy capital of Japan. It’s laid back, tropical and culturally unique. One thing is clear, it is a world away from bustling cities like Tokyo. The whole prefecture consists of more than 150 islands throughout the East China Sea, in the very south of Japan. The largest island (also called Okinawa) is the main gateway, with plenty of popular attractions ranging from World War II history, shopping, the Churaumi Aquarium and, of course, beaches. Other popular islands include Ishigaki, Iriomote, Taketomi and Miyako-jima, to name a few. Nature lovers will enjoy the abundance of views, coastlines and coral reefs that can be found seemingly everywhere.
